Quotations about christianity | |
Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me. A Christian telling an atheist they're going to hell is as scary as a child telling an adult they're not getting any presents from Santa. Thus disbelief crept over me at a very slow rate, but was at last complete. The rate was so slow that I felt no distress, and have never since doubted even for a second that my conclusion was correct. I can indeed hardly see how anyone ought to wish Christianity to be true; for if so the plain language of the text seems to show that the men who do not believe, and this would include my Father, Brother and almost all of my friends, will be ever lastingly punished. And this is a damnable doctrine. [the bible] . . . is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies. |
