I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. My kind of loyalty was loyalty to one's country, not to its institutions or its office-holders. All our institutions, our traditional attitudes, our laws, our morals, our customs, give evidence of the fact that they are determined and maintained by privileged males for the glory of male domination. These institutions reach out into the very nurseries and have a great influence upon the child's soul. There can be no doubt, of course, that criticism is good for people and institutions that are part of public life.
